Dont be a stranger central heating system protection cover
Nowadays, there is almost nothing that can’t be covered by insurance, from the health of dogs to safety of pda’s. Of course, some things are more important to get covered than others and, with the likes of motor insurance, you may be legally required to do so. Anyone seeking a housing loan has to make an insurance policy for the house so that both the lender’s and borrower’s interests are secured. Policyholders are requireded by the lender to protect themselves from losses that could ruin their lives by these types of protection cover.
Moving a step down the ladder of importance we find gas central heating insurance, such as the products offered by British Gas. Perhaps because it is not a requirement to have the likes of central heating insurance it is often overlooked by homeowners and landlords, however repairs of the likes of gas central heating systems can be very expensive. If you do not have this protective cover and in case the system stops working, professional help is often not possible immediately, also it doesn’t sound like a great idea to live without heating for any length of time particularly in cold winters. But the most disturbing fact about a badly maintained central heating system is the possibility of carbon monoxide leakage which can be deadly.
There are a range of plans on the market. The simplest plans are those that include just the minimum requirements with yearly servicing and safety inspections. Maintenance and spare parts coverage are not included in these policies and servicing plans. But anyone taking out one of these plans, unless their boiler is still under warranty, only has to pay a small amount more per month to upgrade to a policy that covers repairs and spare parts. And you could find that if you have an especially old boiler that this money will go a long way. Although a customer may just want their gas boiler covered, it might be prudent to have the rest of the system (radiators, heating controls, central heating pump and so on) covered too.
One thing to watch out for when choosing a policy is any exemptions or limits written into the insurance policy document. Some plans allow only limited call outs in a year and fix a maximum amount to be used on fixes during a particular time period. Do not buy a policy just because it is cheap, the insurance cover should be sufficient for your needs.
