Pumped systems are more common, they have a feed and an expansion tank, another hot water tank is the core of the system, it stores hot water as it heats up and then uses the pipes to transfer heat to the radiators. The expansion tank might fill up at times because of water expansion.
In contrast, Sealed systems eliminate this primary water tank section. Since it is totally sealed, the feed-expansion tanks are not required. The major benefits from this type of system, is that it basically lessens the risk of leaking and stops other possible problems such airlocks, one of the better advantages, especially for colder countries is that there is no risk of pipes freezing up.

Electric fires, gas and storage heaters were the types used in the old days. But these produced uncomfortable humidity and a horrible smell.
Such problems never occur with gas central heating but they require regular maintenance to ensure their peak operation. Spring and summer often sees these systems shut down and completely ignored, only to be abruptly turned on when a chilly wind blows in. Instead it is recommended that you gradually bring them into use during autumn so that if you spot any problem you can quickly contact an engineer.
You should also keep in mind that most households central heating systems can let air or dirt into it, therefore they need yearly draining. The easiest way to do this is to gently open the valve and allow any water to fall into a bucket placed underneath.
