Most heating systems compromise of a heating boiler; heating radiator and pipework, there are basically two different sorts of gas central heating systems, one being a pumped system and the other being a vented system.
The most frequently used system of the two is probably the pumped systems, these comprise of a feed and expansion tank, which works by the gas boiler heating up which then distributes the heat through the pipes to the heaters. The expansion tank does allow for any water expansion that may occur.
In contrast, Sealed systems eliminate this primary water tank section. Since it is completely sealed, the feed-expansion tanks are not required. A sealed central heating system removes the risk of water leakage, airlock formation and pipe freeze (a common problem in the harsh winters of countries like Russia).
So Why Do I need a central heating System?.
The simple answer is that it will allow you to heat your entire house or office quickly without compromising the air quality. Before the gas central heating system came into existence, other heaters like electric and storage heaters were used to keep the home warm or even coal fires. However, these were not ideal as they emitted an odour and affected the condition of the air, drying it out.
Gas central heating ended such problems, however your central heating system should be checked and maintained regularly in order to ensure it is running at its optimum. Spring and summertime often sees these systems shut down and completely ignored, only to be abruptly switched on when a chilly wind blows in. Try to switch on your heating system during autumn so that if there is any defect, it can be fixed well before wintertimes approach and fixed at a time when the heating engineers are less busy.
Furthermore, some of these systems also give admission to air and dirt; therefore draining is a necessity, which should be done regularly with an annual service schedule. The best way to do it is to keep a bucket under the valve, and slowly open it to allow all the water to come out; before closing the valve, ensure that no more water is coming out.
