Tiny houses might study combi boilers
small-scale homes can benefit from installing a combination gas boiler as they require much less storage space than conventional gas boilers. With just a combi gas boiler and balanced flue you have all the component parts you need to set up a full central heating system. Include radiators and copper piping and you are then able to heat your household. Your first reaction maybe that we had forgotten some component parts. Isn’t it true that most systems seem to require a feed and expansion tank in the attic, a water pump to transfer the hot water around and a storage cylinder to keep hot water when not required.
These component parts are not needed by a contemporary combination heating boiler. The hot water storage cylinder can be excluded from your system, the feed and expansion cylinder can be left out of the loft, the other smaller components we have named are in reality built into the combi heating boiler. Adopting this system means you can retrieve a substantial amount of room.
Combination gas boilers have been fitted for a while. Whilst they were first fitted in the Continent they are now a very popular boiler for fitting in the UK. There are two main deviations between this type of heating boiler and its better known alternatives. On the central heating side you still have a fully pumped system but all the heated water which circulates around is sealed in. This means that there is no demand for a feed and enlargement cylinder in the attic. The boiler itself contains a large capacity expansion cylinder but again this is part of the sealed unit.
Hot water is only produced as it is needed, switching on a hot water valve will alert the gas boiler to this need. The heating boiler can quickly heat cold water by using an internal heat exchanger. Hot water circulating in the heating system is diverted to the heat exchanger. This allows cold mains water to be rapidly heated before leaving the hot water tap.
Hot water provision to the radiators is a lower priority than the output of instant hot water for the home. When the valve is closed again the central heating water is returned to its regular circuit.
This might give you food for thought and the impulse to consider a combi gas boiler as your next brand-new heating boiler.
